Idrostudi develops advanced solutions for water distribution systems (WDS) and sewerage networks, applying academic and field-tested knowledge to improve system performance and management, in Italy and worlwide. Through numerical modelling, design and optimisation, the company supports innovative engineering practices that enhance the efficiency, reliability and resilience of water-supply and wastewater infrastructures.
Under the Resilient Urban Sierra Leone Project, the Ministry of Finance, Fiscal Decentralization Division, Resilient Urban Sierra Leone Project (RUSLP) launched a flood-risk assessment across seven secondary cities: Bo, Makeni, Bonthe, Kenema, Koidu New Sembehun, Port Loko and Waterloo. Covering over 1.7 million people, the study focuses on flood-prone urban and peri-urban areas, key markets, vulnerable communities and critical infrastructure.
The project provides local authorities with data-driven tools to plan safer, more resilient urban growth.
Activities include LiDAR-based terrain modelling, hydrological and hydraulic analysis, flood hazard and vulnerability mapping, and the definition of no-build buffer zones.

Idrostudi Team focused on:
- Collection and review of geospatial, socio-economic, and hydrological data;
- Stakeholder engagement and capacity-building activities;
- Acquisition and processing of high-resolution LiDAR data to produce Digital Terrain Models (DTMs);
- Development of hydrological and hydraulic models to assess flood hazards and simulate multiple return period events;
- Evaluation of flood exposure, vulnerability, and risk at city and asset scale;
- Identification and prioritization of structural and non-structural risk reduction measures using multi-criteria analysis;
- Preparation of city-specific Flood Risk Management Plans with investment proposals.
